Then the massive cable to the starter is only hot when the starter is cranked. In my drag race only systems, I move the starter solenoid to the trunk. A gel cell is actually worse for this, because it has no liquid to quickly drain and disable the cell's power production.Īs an electrical engineer I disagree with some of the rules, and with many of the common wiring methods used, but there isn't much debate about containing the battery. If a cell shorts or the heavy wiring shorts, the battery can be like a mini-Chernobyl reactor. The problem is all that energy stored in the battery.
